Very good Poems
ReplyDeleteI knew Hasthai! I miss him, he was like an elder brother to me. I met him last in 1989 in Shillong. I lost touch with him since then (the time he left Shillong). Though later on I got to hear about him quite a lot.
ReplyDeleteHasthai and I was very close as I was vice president of ABSU (Shillong) during that time. In fact both of us traveled to Delhi for the first tripatite talk held in Delhi (in 1989). Other leaders traveled by air, while we both came by train on our own expense. We traveled back together. He was very disappointed with the outcome of the talk and with some senior ABSU leaders. I think it was after this that he made up his mind to leave his studies in Shillong and do something for the community. I knew he was facing some financial problem and did not want to be burden to his family/sister (this is my impression).
By the way, Hasthai Isorary (not Basumatary as given in the blog) could not clear his BSc in St Anthony's college, because he was very much distracted with the agitation during that time. Therefore, there is no question of completing his Masters (as given in this blog) - I am saying this with due respect to Hasthai and not to offend anyone.
After I lost in touch, I tried to contact through his family members (boronda, alias Pius, Bilarious - his brothers). But could not get any response. The last I heard about him was that he had given up everything and taken up to preaching in Mizoram; then suddenly I heard in middle of 2001 that he was shot while he was praying.
I appreciate and congratulate the person Whoever has created this blog in his honour. The poems are very powerful, I think efforts should be made to write a brief biography of Hasthai and include the poems in the publication. The young generation should know his quest for FREEDOM and listening to the inner call for achieving that quest.
